Foodventures

This term I have some goals. I need to cook some more interesting, but cheaper foods. I mostly eat vegetarian, and in order to please my roommate who can't eat much dairy or egg, I have been cooking vegan more. Oh, and vegetarianism is generally cheaper, healthier, and better for the planet than omnivorism? (That's not a word?)

Things I need to try cooking:
Today I am making a brussel sprout "coleslaw" (check out how they turned out!) with sunflower seeds, lemon juice, and olive oil, as suggested by my "Pure Vegan" cookbook. I've never eaten brussel sprouts before so this will be interesting. They look a little odd and foreign.

I am also making pasta with caramelized onions, cauliflower, and peppers in the crock-pot. We'll see how it goes. Am I going to blog about my cooking? Well, yeah, probably.

My favourite things to cook with:
  • Asparagus (tossed with olive oil, or balsamic vinegar...)
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Broccoli (broccoli salad is de-lish)
  • Spinach
  • Goat cheese or brie
  • Quinoa
  • Caramelized onions
  • Avocado
  • Raw salmon
  • Apples. I put apples in anything I can
  • Peanut butter
What are your favourites? What will you challenge yourself to cook this term?

Some wonderful cookbooks in my collection: Pure Vegan, The Vegetarian Slow Cooker, Crazy Plates, The Guilt-Free Gourmet, and How to Boil Water (yes, that is a ridiculous title, but there are really good instructions. For example, I learned how to bake an apple pie from this book).
